Cristiano Ronaldo has given his clearest indication yet that he could retire from professional football after the 2026-27 season.
The 41-year-old Portugal superstar, currently playing for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, said in a recent interview with Vogue that the upcoming campaign is “probably” his final year in football and that he wants to leave a “spectacular legacy.”
Ronaldo has spent around 25 years at the highest level, winning five Ballon d’Or awards and five UEFA Champions League titles while representing Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Al-Nassr.
Despite the retirement hint, Ronaldo remains focused on his final season and is reportedly targeting the landmark of 1,000 career goals. He currently has 976 goals for club and country, according to Reuters.
Ronaldo also revealed that he has already thought about life after football, including travelling more, playing padel and spending more time enjoying life away from the game.
His Al-Nassr contract runs until 2027, meaning the 2026-27 campaign could indeed become the final chapter of one of football’s most remarkable careers.
