Babar Azam etched his name further into Pakistan cricket history on Sunday by becoming only the third captain to lead the men’s national team in 150 international matches.
The milestone came during the second Test against the West Indies, marking another significant achievement in the 31-year-old’s captaincy career after recently returning to lead Pakistan in the longest format.
Babar joins an elite list headed by legendary captain Imran Khan, who led Pakistan in 187 international matches, while Misbah-ul-Haq occupies second place with 151. With 150 matches now under his belt, Babar is just one game behind Misbah and could soon move into second place on the all-time list.

Babar has also established himself as one of Pakistan’s most successful captains. His 84 international victories rank second in the country’s history, trailing only Imran Khan’s 89 wins, while Misbah remains third with 77.
Across his 150 matches as captain, Babar has recorded 84 wins, 51 defeats, two ties, four draws, and eight no-results, giving him an impressive win percentage of 56%.
Former skipper Wasim Akram sits fourth on Pakistan’s all-time captaincy list with 134 matches, followed by Inzamam-ul-Haq (119) and Sarfaraz Ahmed (100).
Babar first became Pakistan’s T20I captain in October 2019 before taking charge of the ODI team in 2020 and the Test side later that year. He stepped down as all-format captain after the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup but was reappointed white-ball captain in 2024 before resigning again to focus on his batting. He recently returned as Test captain, replacing Shan Masood ahead of Pakistan’s tours of the West Indies and England.
