Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has arrived in Türkiye on a two-day official visit aimed at further strengthening the long-standing strategic and defence partnership between Islamabad and Ankara.
According to security sources, Field Marshal Asim Munir received a warm welcome upon his arrival in Türkiye. During the visit, he is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with Türkiye’s military and political leadership to discuss bilateral defence cooperation, regional security, and matters of mutual interest.
The visit comes days after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif concluded his own official trip to Türkiye, where he held talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan focused on expanding trade, investment, and strategic cooperation, underscoring the growing momentum in ties between the two countries.
Pakistan and Türkiye maintain one of the closest defence relationships in the region, with extensive cooperation in military training, defence production, intelligence sharing, and counterterrorism. The two countries also regularly conduct joint military exercises and collaborate on major defence projects, including the modernization of Pakistan Navy vessels, the construction of MILGEM-class corvettes, and the supply of advanced defence equipment.
Security sources said the meetings during Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit are expected to focus on enhancing military-to-military cooperation, reviewing regional security developments, and exploring new avenues for collaboration between the armed forces of both countries.
The visit also reflects the regular high-level engagement between Islamabad and Ankara. In recent years, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening strategic cooperation through the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council and other bilateral mechanisms.
The official visit is being viewed as another step toward reinforcing the comprehensive strategic partnership between Pakistan and Türkiye amid evolving regional and global security challenges.
