Israel has expressed concern over the newly signed defence agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, describing the development as potentially dangerous for Israel amid growing regional tensions.
The comments came after Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in the Saudi city of Makkah on August 7. Under the pact, an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be regarded as an attack against all three, establishing a framework for collective defence.
An Israeli minister responsible for immigration affairs reportedly described the Makkah agreement as a “very dangerous” and worrying development, warning that the pact could have serious implications for Israel.
The Israeli concern is particularly focused on Türkiye’s inclusion in the arrangement. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia already had a bilateral defence understanding, while Ankara has increasingly taken a critical position on Israeli military actions and regional policies.
The new agreement brings together three countries with significant strategic capabilities. Türkiye has a major defence-industrial base and advanced drone capabilities, Pakistan possesses a nuclear-armed military, while Saudi Arabia has substantial financial resources and strategic importance in the Gulf. Analysts say the combination could give the three countries greater leverage in regional security affairs.
However, Pakistani officials have stressed that the agreement is defensive in nature and is not directed against any particular country. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said the pact is intended to promote “peace through strength” and strengthen collective deterrence rather than provoke confrontation.
The agreement has also generated wider regional interest. Türkiye has indicated that the framework could eventually be expanded, with other countries potentially joining the arrangement.
The Makkah pact marks a significant development in security cooperation among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye and comes at a time of heightened instability across the Middle East. Its long-term impact will depend on how the three countries translate the agreement into military coordination, joint planning and practical security commitments.
