The federal government has decided to keep petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices unchanged for July 26 and 27, as international fuel benchmark Platts does not publish oil price assessments over the weekend.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division on Saturday, the revised fuel prices announced on July 25 will remain effective until Monday. As a result, petrol will continue to retail at Rs335.18 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) will remain at Rs383.46 per litre.
The decision comes just a day after the government increased petrol prices by Rs3.66 per litre and HSD by Rs4.80 per litre under Pakistan’s newly introduced daily fuel pricing mechanism.
The government currently collects around Rs110 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs96 per litre on diesel, making petroleum products a major source of revenue despite fluctuations in international crude oil prices.
The latest pricing follows the government’s decision to replace weekly fuel price revisions with daily adjustments, allowing prices to reflect global oil market movements more quickly. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said the federal cabinet had authorized the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to determine fuel prices on a daily basis based on international trends.
Pakistan introduced the daily pricing system after heightened volatility in global oil markets caused by renewed tensions in the Middle East, particularly involving the United States and Iran.
However, the move has drawn criticism from the All Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association, which argues that daily price revisions would create operational challenges for fuel stations and increase uncertainty for both retailers and consumers. The association has warned it may announce a nationwide protest if the government does not reconsider the policy.
Motorists are now expected to await the next fuel price revision once fresh international benchmark prices become available after the weekend.
