The United States has officially and permanently closed its Consulate General in Peshawar, ending decades of diplomatic operations in the provincial capital and transferring responsibility for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad.
In an official announcement, the U.S. said all diplomatic engagement with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will now be managed by the newly established Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Unit (KPU) at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad. The U.S. Consulate Peshawar’s website and social media channels have also been deactivated.
Despite the closure, Washington emphasized that its commitment to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains unchanged. The KPU will continue to strengthen trade and commercial ties, enhance security cooperation, and expand partnerships with communities across the province.
The U.S. Embassy has advised the public to follow its official Facebook, Instagram, and X accounts, as well as its website, for updates on diplomatic initiatives and services related to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the rest of Pakistan.
The move marks a significant restructuring of the U.S. diplomatic presence in Pakistan, with all engagement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa now coordinated from Islamabad.
