Telenor Pakistan Officially Merges With Ufone as PTML, Reshaping Telecom Industry

Telenor Pakistan has officially merged with Ufone to form a single mobile operator under Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), marking one of the biggest shake-ups in Pakistan’s telecom industry in recent years.

The merger, completed after receiving all statutory and regulatory approvals, brings together the network infrastructure, spectrum, subscribers, and operations of both telecom companies under PTML. The move is expected to strengthen competition in Pakistan’s mobile market and improve network efficiency for millions of users.

A key condition set by the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) required Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) to operate independently from the merged mobile business. As a result, PTCL has been separated from the new mobile entity and will continue to function as a standalone company with its own board of directors and chief executive.

The restructuring also includes changes in PTCL’s leadership. Mohammad Nadeem Khan has been appointed interim Chief Executive Officer for 14 days, effective July 2, 2026, replacing Hatem Mohamed Bamatraf. PTCL has also reconstituted its board following recent management changes.

Sources said Ufone employees have begun shifting to the company’s 345 headquarters as part of the post-merger integration process, signaling that operational consolidation is already underway.

The combined PTML is expected to emerge as one of Pakistan’s largest mobile operators, serving tens of millions of subscribers. Industry experts believe the merger will enable better utilization of spectrum, stronger network coverage, and increased investment in next-generation technologies, including 5G and digital services.

For existing Ufone and former Telenor Pakistan customers, services are expected to continue without interruption during the integration process. While both brands may continue operating during the transition period, future integration plans are expected to be announced as PTML completes the merger.

The landmark deal reshapes Pakistan’s telecom sector and is expected to intensify competition among the country’s major mobile operators in the years ahead.
